I AM SAM/STAN, a play by Theatre Replacement

I AM SAM STAN was a performance puzzle which continued non-stop for just over 3 hours. Audience members were allowed to stay or leave whenever they wanted. This durational piece told the story of an extremely disfunctional couple trying to run a sun-tan oil business post-apocalypse. Inspirations included Beckett’s Endgame and the strong desire for a tropical vacation.

Theatre Replacement presented I AM SAM STAN as part of a space invasion by eleven creation-based theatre companies, called HIVE. A unique and intimate performance experience for Vancouver audiences, patrons visited several different mini-worlds in just one night. Each of the companies was given free-rein to create according to their own whimsy. I AM SAM STAN was created and performed by James Long and Maiko Bae Yamamoto
