Broiler

Broiler is a one-person show about a little chicken. A demonstration of how an individual side steps the truth in every situation. In fact, the only thing that seems honest about this fellow is the broiler chicken he is preparing for the audience to eat. There is a reality underlying the façade, however, a very difficult one. As bits of it emerge things become more intimate, perhaps even uncomfortable. Kind of like the truth.

Broiler is written, built and performed by James Long, directed by Craig Hall, with lighting design by Itai Erdal and Sound Design by Noah Drew. Presented as part of Rumble Production’s Young & The Restless Series, the show ran at Performance Works on Granville Island, April 21 – 30, 2005.

“James Long's talents as a writer are much in evidence in a cryptic script loaded with pregnant pauses, hidden meanings and little twists. His confident performance as a gutless, gormless guy confirms Long's abilities as an actor, and Craig hall's even-handed direction makes Broiler the best possible forum for the tastiest of innovative theatre.”
